Prescription Drug Abuse

Presecription Drug Abuse

Safe Use

  • Read instructions you are given regarding your prescription drugs.
  • Only take medication prescribed to you.
  • Never take more than the prescribed amount.
  • Never share or sell your prescription drugs.
  • Follow the doctor’s advice regarding your prescription and follow up with any questions you may have.

Safe Storage

  • Keep prescription pain pills in the original bottle with the label attached and with the child-resistant cap secured.
  • Store prescription pain medications out of reach of kids, family and guests.
  • Utilize lock boxes to store medications that are at risk at being abused.

In an effort to promote safe storage, a FREE Medicine Lockbox is available to residents of Muskogee County (one per household), please call us at 918-683-4600 or email prevention@nbn-nrc.org to inquire or schedule a pick-up.

Safe Disposal

You may have prescription drugs and other medicines you or your family no longer use. Oklahoma has a prescription drug take-back program. To find a location near you and for other safe disposal methods, visit: OK.gov
